Adobe Flash checks my system and says that Flash player is installed and up to date at 24.0.0.194. Yet Firefox Add-ons shows "Shockwave Flash" player at 24.0.0.156 and will not update. I don't know which one is correct. Why does Firefox call the add on "Shockwave flash player?

Also there is some Firefox app that is embedded in my system that forces "Adobe Flash Player" update each time I "RESTART" my system. It also wants to install other software I don't want. It goes through the update as if it would install a new version of Adobe Flash but the actual version is what is already installed. In the end it does not update the Shock wave flash software in Firefox. I check the Adobe web site and it says the latest version is already installed.

Please tell me what I can do to correct this.

Having more than one version of a program may cause issues. You must remove the older programs. Then get the current full installer.

Flash: Grab the uninstaller from here: Uninstall Flash Player | Windows Uninstall Flash Player | Mac

Then reinstall the latest version.

Note: Windows users should download the active_x for Internet Explorer. and the plugin for Plugin-based browsers (like Firefox).

Note: Windows 8 and Windows 10 have built-in flash players and Adobe will cause a conflict. Install the plugin only. Not the active_x.

Flash Player Version: 24.0.0.194

https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ Direct link scans current system and browser Note: Other software is offered in the download. <Windows Only>

https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/ Step 1: Select Operating System Step 2: Select A Version (Firefox, Win IE . . . .) Note: Other software is offered in the download. <Windows Only>

Shockwave Flash is the old name it still identifies as for the Flash Player Plugin in some places.

Plugins like Flash Player, Java, Shockwave for director Player, Silverlight are on the OS and not installed in Firefox like Extensions and complete Themes are. You can type about:plugins in the Location (address) to see where the Plugins are located on your system whether on Windows, Mac OSX, or Linux.

The typical cause for this is you have both Flash Player 24.0.0.156 and 24.0.0.194 installed on system as the previous versions were not unstalled by Flash installer and Firefox is still recognizing the previous version you had which is 24.0.0.156

When you download Flash Player for Windows from https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ do make sure you uncheck the extras before downloading.
