Hi, click on the hamburger menu, then customize firefox, click on the downloads icon that is in customize, and untick the box that says 'Auto-Hide' then after you exit customize, and click on the icon - then press 'Show All Downloads'

I didn't see the earlier reply about using the Library window. You can also call that up by pressing Ctrl+j if you like keyboard shortcuts.

Firefox's download manager changed back around Firefox 20. The kind of extension that could re-create that window (Legacy extensions) no longer run in Firefox 57. Currently you could:

Open about:downloads in a tab or window and bookmark it somewhere convenient, then when you Shift+click the bookmark, it will launch in a new window. (Or if you open it in a tab you can right-click the tab > Move to New Window)

Okay, yeah, that's not very satisfying.

Hopefully there will be something else for fans of the old Download Manager down the road.

thanks both of you for the replies, pressing Ctrl+j is probably what I will do, not exactly the same as before but it will do for now.

Yet another clunky unintuitive browser function in Quantum ... did the devs really never look at how Chrome does things and understand why it will without doubt continue to be number 1 despite the slurping?

Disappointed. Would prefer to support Mozilla, but have to stick with the enemy's much slicker browsing experience for bookmarks and downloads.

When I click the hamburg then customize there is no "download" option that appears. What to do next, I would like the down arrow in the address bar by the search box where it has always been. And as long as we are addressing customization issues why is the "open new tab + mark not to the right of the existing tab instead of to the left of the 1st open tab? I can not find a way to put it back where it has always been. Why do they change things that don't need changing? Win 7 FF 57.0 64 bit

Hi figureit, the Downloads arrow is hidden until your first download of the session. To override that and show it all the time, you can use a custom style rule. Please see: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1189655 use the method shown in the Solution. I've attached a screenshot for that.

Hmm, why would the "+" button be to the left?? Would you mind doing a "reset" on your toolbar layout. There's a button labeled "Restore Defaults" at the bottom of the Customize panel. See: Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars.
