I want to stop firefox from asking me to save passwords after I have cleared my history but still keep remembered passwords.
Every time I clear my browsing history which my employers have asked me to do daily because I log on to online banking daily I get asked if I want to remember passwords even though I've clicked never remember, I have several saved passwords that I would like to keep so turning off saved passwords doesn't help as the passwords I've already saved disappear when I do this.

Note that you can consider to use a New Private Window to access sensitive websites you do not want to keep data from.
In case you use "Clear history when Firefox closes" or otherwise clear history.
- do not clear the Site Preferences
- Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security -> Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history": [X] "Clear history when Firefox closes" -> Settings
- https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/delete-browsing-search-download-history-firefox
- clearing "Site Preferences" clears exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, and software installation and exception for password and other website specific data
