I have just changed my laptop and to keep some form of local email storage I have dropped Windows Live Mail for Thunderbird. I run Windows 10.

The Thuderbird account I sync with a my service provider's email server using IMAP. I also sync the service provider with my Ipad and Iphone. All is great apart from deleted emails.... Thunderbird puts them in the Trash folder. The server and Imail put them in other folders. Therefore, I have three folders with deleted emails. This is not a tragedy but is an incovenience.

Is there a way, that I cannot find, that will enable Thunderbird to put deleted emails into one of the other folders? That way it will be down to just two directories and I can try to sort one of the others......

Under Tools|Account Settings|{select account}|Server Settings you can tell Thunderbird where to put deleted messages.

Generally, if a server is fixated on using a specific folder, I'd set Thunderbird to use the same folder if possible. But the email provider may have rules that implement deletion of Trash messages when they reach a certain age, so you might not want to put your trash in there.
