Screen contents extend beyond the edges of the screen; reading email, for instance, I can see only sender and subject, not whether anything is attached to the email (to the right) or which email box I am in (to the left)

Try to rename/remove xulstore.json and if present delete localstore.rdf in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

Please provide a screenshot of what you are seeing. I wonder if you are opening those emails in the full width of the screen; or if you have the menu listing all the received emails in the left sidebar.

See this support article. How do I create a screenshot of my problem? It is best to use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot and make sure that you do not exceed a maximum file size of 1 MB.

Then use the Browse .... button below the Post a Reply text box to upload the screenshot.
