I use lycos webmail with lots of old messages in it. Unfortunately the free account does not allow POP/IMAP access so I cannot have them in Thunderbird. I wonder if I can use the Thunderbird Local Folders to store old messages from lycos? If I am able to make copies of the old messages, will I be able to store those copies in the local Folder? Are there any restrictions? What will happen to those old messages in the local folder if Thunderbird was updated to a newer version?

Thunderbird's Local Folders is perfect for local, offline storage, but I'm at a loss as to how you'll extract them from Lycos and import them into Thunderbird.

I can't recall any change in Thunderbird that has stopped us using pre-existing mailstores. If we were to change to another storage system, I'm sure a migration route or tool would be provided.

I actually do have one message from lycos stored in thunderbird local folder from last year. But I can't remember how I got it there! Did I import it or download it as an eml message or....? I'll have to keep digging and trying.
