I have to go back to Chrome because Firefox doesn't work with Shadowsocks (a must have for work), how can I stop this madness from happening?
Hi,
I live in China and regular VPN services don't cut it for me, so I am using Shadowsocks, provided by work, which in terms of useability, performance and speed, exceeds by far my personal VPN. But none of the network settings related to proxies in the "Preferences" seem to work. As soon as shadowsocks is on, firefox can't browse ANY page. Is this a bug, is there a way for me to make it work? Thanks a lot, I am not such a big fan of being forced to use google chrome (although it's a great software, it's quite resource hungry, and well, ..., it's google, I'd rather keep using firefox.
Thanks anyone for the help.
Cheers.

I believe it is the China Gov restricting free access to the net as why that was developed : https://www.vpnmentor.com/blog/shadowsocks-vs-vpns-everything-need-know/ know is biased as is a vpn.
Reason Firefox I think can not browse the net is other browser is using proxies. Just know that Chrome if it gets out will be monitored by the state, expect your stuff to be intercepted and possible knock on the door.
Have you tried Tor ? Reply back to this as am sure someone knows more.
Hi Pkshadow,
Thanks for your response. I don't think that's the problem, because if I use a VPN service, firefox can browse. But the VPN is quite slow, that why I wanted to use Shadowsocks as the results in speed are much higher. If I disable Shadowsocks, I can browse the net, but not the blocked website, for obvious reasons.
I think the reasons are that Firefox struggles to correctly use the "system proxy settings" that are created when enabling Shodowsocks. Is this a possibility?
Thanks.
