FF tells me I have no add-ons installed when clearly I do... And they are functional. How do I access my add-ons listing?

Additionally, I have a couple of add-on that contain data necessary to access accounts but these are disable. Under the current situation I cannot activate these add-ons so I cannot access those sites.

Hi AddOnsBroke1, we currently do not know the source of the problem, so I don't know what will happen if you install an older version of Firefox.

To implement FredMcD's suggestion, try this minimal change first:

Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using either

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter

In the first table on the page, on the Profile Folder row, click the "Open Folder" button. This should launch a new window listing various files and folders in Windows Explorer.

Set Windows to show all file extensions: https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/how-to-show-file-extensions-in-windows/

Then, leaving that window open, switch back to Firefox and Exit, either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > Exit
  • (menu bar) File > Exit

Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then:

  • right-click > Rename the extensions.ini file to something like extensionsOLD.ini
  • right-click > Rename the extensions.json file to something like extensionsOLD.json
  • do not touch the yellow folder named extensions, you definitely do not want to delete that

Start Firefox back up again and check on whether it discovered your extensions and now lists them on the Add-ons page, Extensions category.

The Add-ons page has several sections. Is the problem with:

  • Plugins (e.g., Adobe Acrobat, Flash, Java, Silverlight)
  • Extensions
  • other

To open the Add-ons page, either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
  • type or paste about:addons in the address bar and press Enter/Return

For extensions, there's a list on the Troubleshooting Information page that you can cross-reference. To open that, either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter/Return

Scroll down to the table that follows the Extensions heading.

I have several add-on loaded (CS-LITE; DISCONNECT; TRANQUILITY; AD-ADARE, ETC) and all are functional. There are a few similar aps also located (I don't know wheter to call these add-on or extensions) that are inactive but necessary. I can neither access those that are active or those that are disabled. The menu that would normally display the list all of my add-ons is no accessible... It tells me I have no add-ons loaded!?!? When clearly I do.

So you open the Add-on page. In the left column, click Extensions. That panel says you don't have any extensions?

This could be caused by a corrupted settings file, damaged program files, or a bad extension that hides the list. Have to run...

Look, I am a low tech quy who uses FF without getting into a whole lot of technical stuff. No, I have not run blockquote, have no idea what it is or where I would run it from so if you think this would resolve the issue I'll need some specific instructions.

Would dowloading another version (older or newer) of FF fix the problem? I might consider that if I would not lose the extentions I already have. I am particularly concerned about the extension that has passwords.

It’s possible that there is a problem with the file(s) that store the extensions registry.

Type about:support in the address bar and press enter.

Under the page logo on the left side, you will see Application Basics. Under this find Profile Folder. To its right press the button Show Folder. This will open your file browser to the current Firefox profile. Now Close Firefox.

Delete all extensions files and compatibility.ini in the Firefox profile folder to reset the extensions registry.

New files will be created when required.

After, restart Firefox.

"Delete all extensions files and compatibility.ini in the Firefox profile folder to reset the extensions registry."

Does this mean that I will lose all of the add-ons that I have? and it will be necessary to download them anew?

This is getting way to complicated/technical for me to handle. Is there an archieve of earlier versions of FF that I could download? Would that erase/replace the 'extension' and 'compatibility' files that you suggest I delete manually?

There was no 'extensions.ini' file so I renamed the 'json' file and re-started FF as you suggested. BINGO! The complete list of my add-ons has re-appeared.

Thanks much for your patience and advice.
