I have the spell check box activated, but it still does not work on email or other documents. This quit after an update.

What's your Firefox version?

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/update-firefox-latest-version?cache=no Did you update Firefox to the latest version 65.0.2 February 28, 2019

Are you using the built-in spellchecker? Or are you using an add-on or program?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

What Language of Firefox do you have as only en-US and perhaps a couple other locales comes with a Dictionary due to licensing reasons.

If you need a Dictionary you can get it from this list. https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/language-tools/

Note the Language Packs are not used with the spellchecker but for as a option to have one install of Firefox and be able to change to different languages of Firefox menus and such.

The inline spell checker in Firefox needs a dictionary to check words with.

What English version as there are four as in US, British, South African and more recently Canadian as you can see on https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/

Only the US comes with a Dictionary for certain, not sure about Canadian and the British English locale has never come with a dictionary.

One other note: sometimes sites turn off spell-checking in the editor. When you right-click, the check-mark would be missing from in front of Check Spelling. Try clicking Check Spelling to see whether that turns it on.

That does work, but I hate adding apps that collect information. Thank you.

I had firefox extended release version and switched to standard release. This installed the 65.0.0 version and my spell check was back. Thank you so much.

The Spell checker exists in the 60 ESR version also just that you need a Dictionary installed and selected as you have been informed earlier.
