I can't delete any bookmarks. No "star" in address bar. There was one, but when I clicked on it, nothing happened. Now it's gone.

Hello Ellen,

Would you try this please :

Click on the 3-dots (...) at the right end of the address bar (Page Actions); do you see the star there ? If so : then right-click on it to add it to the address bar.

Any luck ?

Okay, I got the star back. But when I click on it because I want to delete a bookmark, it doesn't turn blue. Nothing happens. So I still can't delete any bookmarks. But thanks for showing me how to get it back.

The star should turn blue when you want to bookmark a page - when you want to remove a bookmark the star should already be blue .....

Would you do this please :

Type in the address bar about:support (and press Enter)

Scroll all the way down till you see "Places Database" and click on "Verify Integrity' Then copy and paste the results here please.

If you use Sync then best is to disconnect Sync temporarily during troubleshooting.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder.

  • use "Verify Integrity" button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page

In case errors are reported with "Verify Integrity" close and restart Firefox and retry.

If "Verify Integrity" cannot repair places.sqlite, rename/remove all places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder. Firefox will rebuild places.sqlite and restore the bookmarks from a recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.

  • keep a backup copy of places.sqlite in case a new places.sqlite database has to be created

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

Too complicated. I don't have time right now. I'll let you know when I've done it.

In a lot of cases you only need to open Help -> Troubleshooting Information (about:support) and click the "Verify Integrity" button and possibly close and restart Firefox. This should only take a less than a minute. If this isn't working then you need to take further action.

Okay, I did that. I got the star to turn blue. I clicked on "Remove bookmark" on the drop-down menu, but it's still there.

Update: It worked on a couple, but didn't work on a couple of others.
