Auto responses can be created in Thunderbird, but they can also be set up in the webmail account.

If you set up Thunderbird to do the out of office, then you would have created a template email and stored it in the 'Templates' folder and also created a Message Filter that uses that template email. Computer and Thunderbird would need to have been left on and running for the Message Filter to continue working in your absence. This is not the safest of options. Check to see if you have a Message Filter running.

Usually, out of office reponses are set up via webmail account which you access via a Browser. Then you do not need to perform all the setups in Thunderbird, nor have TB running to download emails just to send out a message. Logon to the webmail account that is sending out the 'out of office' and stop the function.

re :1. When I am forwarding a message there is some text added automatically see attachment 1. How do I get rid of this? You have a setting to show full headers. Menu app icon > View > Headers > select 'Normal'
