Firefox 97 want to always print with system dialog box
Prior to FF97 a simply setting to "false" the about:config, print.tab_modal.enabled setting allowed FF to always use the system dialog box when printing. However, in FF97, this is no longer the case. How can I set FF97 to always use the system print dialog box??
I almost always use Preview printing on my Macs to avoid multiple pages of garbage so this is fairly important to me...and it might help to save a few trees...

I too want the option back to bypass the Firefox print dialog and go directly to the familiar Windows system print dialog. Firefox now feels too much like Microsoft, coercive: You will do it our way, cause there is no other way! I am going to try Edge again, out of anger really, at removing from us a valuable option.

There are bugs on file to add two things:
(1) New user preference to always bypass the preview (2) New keyboard shortcut to print without preview
The old code was removed, so this is going to take some time to build. We might see it in Firefox 98 next month, but I'm not sure because it isn't in testing yet.

Edge is very similar to Chrome now, which may or may not suit you better than the old Edge.
I don't want to to waste time with the clumsy 'modal' print dialog. I want to use the Mac System dialog, but why should I have to manually switch to it? At least give users the choice to use the System dialog as a default. I will be looking for a new browser unless this is fixed.
On the Mac, I note, that I can at least use Option+Command+p to bring up the system print dialog .... on Microsoft Edge.
This sort of change is bizarre. Is it designed to keep programmers programming? The first requirement of a (supposed) change for the better ought to be 'does it do everything the previous solution did.' The second is: 'is the new solution more efficient?' With respect to printing, the answer to both is: no.
Developers, at the very least, make the system dialog available through a key combination such as Edge has. Why frustrate, irritate, and agitate your user base needlessly?

There are now several posts about this on the new feedback site connect.mozilla.org (which has replaced mozilla.crowdicity.com). You can access this new site using your Firefox login. I would encourage anyone who has an opinion about this to visit the new site and leave some feedback.
Any chance a fix was made in the recently released 98.0?
Still a big problem. Just tried to print (now running FF 98.01 and the same darn (would use stronger language here) thing happens - still defaults to the FireFox print dialog. Please don't suggest doing the whole "about:config, print.tab_modal.enabled setting". because it doesn't work! This has been going on for months and what a pain. Please get this corrected so that we can use the system dialog setting as a default.
Hi senbariki, the developers have bugs on file to create a way to bypass the preview overlay and go directly to the system dialog. I don't know how soon that might show up in Firefox.
Hi jschneid002, I'm also on mac, so if you're having any issues, I should be able to test them out for you. When I try to print this page, there is a link on the site that says Print using the system dialog. Do you now see that on your system? Is that not what you want?
Yes, I see the link to the system dialog box and I have to use it all the time but there are two problems with this:
When I print, I would like Firefox to go directly to the system dialog box…I have no need for the Firefox preview page. It’s redundant and frankly annoying.
Second, if I print from the Firefox preview page it drives my printer incorrectly. I want to print in black and white and make that selection…however, the preview page still prints in color.
=== For those who do not want any preview ===
It's finally here. Firefox 101 has a preference to bypass the combined print preview/setup overlay and go straight to the system dialog. Here's how you can try it out:
(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.
WARNING: More info on about:config: Configuration Editor for Firefox. The moderators would like us to remind you that changes made through this back door aren't fully supported and aren't guaranteed to continue working in the future.
(2) In the search box in the page, type or paste print.prefer_system_dialog and pause while the list is filtered
(3) Double-click the preference to switch the value from false to true
If you need to restore the default display, you can call up the preference and double-click again to toggle the value back to false. There's also will be a reset arrow at the right end of the row when the preference has a non-default value.
