When I open Firefox settings I can set; Firefox Home (Default), Custom URLs..., or Blank Page. I altered the Firefox Home to show a custom image per [[How to add image to my firefox home page / newtab page|https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1288490]] . Now I'd like to show the Firefox Home page every time I open Firefox or open a new blank tab.

When I read the article [[How do I set a different Home page and Home button|https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1341696]] the options in "about:config > browser.startup.page" are limited to "0-blank; 1-home page; 2-last visited page; 3-restore previous session", but there is no Firefox Home page in this option.

So, it seems I cannot have Firefox open to my custom Firefox Home page (and NewTab) image and have the home button open to my corporate web site. Is there another option that I can accomplish this?

P.S. Latest version of Firefox 117.0.1 on Windows 10 Pro.

One of the main purposes of the homepage is to appear in new windows. If you don't want this, you can use a bookmark or an extension like 1-Click URL Opener.

New tabs (about:newtab) should show your style modifications if you applied them correctly.

Well, this explains why different people have different expectations. I expect the Home button to navigate me to where I want it to (i.e. our corporate web site). I want Firefox to open where I want it to, not where the Home button sends me to. To me the Home button is a singular action, not what the browser opens to or what a tab opens to, which are different, although they may be the same.

In my instance Firefox opens to our corporate web page but new tabs open to the Firefox Home page modified by me to include a different picture. Why opening firefox would only give me a choice of my home page, the last page visited, or the last session is not obvious nor logical to me, when I'd like Firefox to open to where a new tab opens. If I wanted Firefox to open to my Home page I'd select that option, or to a blank page I'd select that option, or to my last site visited I'd select that option, or to where new tabs open I'd select that option.

As you can see, options are limited by FF's settings, for reason(s) that escape me as I don't work on the code at all.

That being said, thanks for letting me know I didn't mistake my options.

The behavior you want out of the homepage button is the same as a bookmark. There are a multitude of ways to access links with bookmarks, new tab shortcuts, address bar suggestions, keywords, sidebars, toolbars, extensions, the list goes on...

"The behavior you want out of the homepage button is the same as a bookmark."

That's true for you and mostly true for me. My note was about what I expected, not what others expect. As it stands I allow FF to open to our corporate site. It certainly is not the end of the world. Thanks for your thoughts.

Hi

I do not think you will need to alter about:config for this and I would not recommend it. If you type about:preferences#home into the address bar and set the Homepage and New tab options to "Firefox Home (default)", you should see your altered new tab page displayed.

I must be illiterate, as I'm not able to describe what I mean. I have Firefox installed that looks like:

<- -> O |^| [ ] * =

The "|^|" is the Home button. When I open FF and set Homepage and New Windows to our corporate site then the Home button, when clicked, shows our corporate site. When we open FF we see our corporate site. When we open a new tab we see the modified Firefox Home (default) page. When we close the last tab we get the modified Firefox Home (default) page.

We'd like the corporate web site disassociated from the Firefox opening page and have the modified Firefox Home (default) page displayed when opening Firefox. We only want the corporate web site associated with the Home button on the firefox toolbar (?).

This does not seem possible. I'm sure there is some programming reason to prevent this but certainly not a logical reason.

One way you could do this would be to write an add-on for Firefox that adds a toolbar icon that, when selected opens a website.

It would be easier to do this if the home button went to your modified page and the add-on button directed to the corporate website.

Your companies IT team might be able to help get an add-on written and published that could do this.

You can pin 1-Click URL Opener to the toolbar and move it next to the navigation controls, in the exact same location as the home button. You could even edit the extension's icon to make it indistinguishable from the home button.

I agree with the original question/desire the author asked - the WANT is to simply open Firefox to the Firefox Homepage or Home Screen every time the browser is opened. Not send me to the last URL I visited or my company homepage or the last Pocket I established. I love the idea that there is a list of Pocket I have recently used on the second line. If and when I open Firefox and it takes me to yesterday's last visited page, I simply click the "Home" icon on the upper menu bar and the Firefox HomePage appears. It sucks, but it is only a short suck away.
