When I open a new tab, the default search is "yahoo" and I want it to be google. I can not find anywhere an option to choose the default search engine, or page, for a new tab.

Firefox opens a blank page in a new tab. If that isn't the case then you have an extension that opens a specific page.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
