I have tried several different ways to change my default homepage to Google.ca:

- I tried changing it in TOOLS - OPTIONS - GENERAL - STARTUP - HOMEPAGE - "use current page" (while on google.ca)

- I tried changing it in TOOLS - OPTIONS - GENERAL - STARTUP - HOMEPAGE - "use bookmark" (selected my google.ca bookmark)

I am using Firefox 3.6 because installing Firefox 4 caused my Back button to malfunction (pressing back once would often make Firefox go back twice... I posted about that problem already but Firefox support forum was unable to help)

I know how to assign a default homepage under normal circumstance but that isn't working, can anyone suggest what else I can try?

Thanks very much.

  • In the location bar, type about:config and hit Enter.
  • In the filter at the top, type: keyword.URL
  • Double click it and remove whatever's in there and replace it with http://www.google.ca/search?q=
  • Go to File | Exit and then restart.

Since the above becomes a link in this post, right click it, choose "Copy Link Location" and then paste it in the keyword.URL setting. Saves you having to type it all.

You can set your home page in the way you've described yourself afterwards or simply by dragging the URL onto the Home button.

EDIT: as regards the back button in FF4, right click it and select what you want from the list.
