I am receiving a notice sometimes that states: Software update failed. Something is trying to trick Firefox into accepting an insecure update. Please contact your network provider and seek help. Any one know about this? I am on ATT DSL and not a network.
Software Update Update failed.

I am not on a network but am on AT&T DSL. Should I contact AT&T or is this a Firefox problem?

Try to change https://aus2.mozilla.org to https://aus3.mozilla.org in the pref app.update.url on the about:config page if that pref shows aus2 in the value.
To open the about:config page, type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.
Okay I made the change, I hope, so now I will wait to see if that took care of the message. Thanks a lot for your help
You're welcome.
So you had a aus2 instead of the correct aus3 in that URL ?
Was that aus2 setting bold (user set) or default?
Does the pref after you have changed it to aus3 show as default?
That is correct, I had aus2 as a default setting. When I changed to to aus3, it now shows as a user setting. Do I need to change this to the default setting and if so how is that done?
No. the aus3 value is correct although the devs are planning a server redirect to make sure that both values work.
What is the name of the Firefox program folder?
Is it "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\" or something else?
Which files do you see in the defaults\pref folder in the Firefox program folder?
Bug 658066 – Redirect aus2.mozilla.org to aus3.mozilla.org

The program file is Mozilla Firefox. The files in the defaults\pref folder is as follows; autoconfig, pref, profile, shortcuts. Thanks again for your input. Does this look ok, or does anything else need to be done?
Did you look in the pref folder?
You listed the folders in the defaults folder.
You need to open the pref folder and look there.
There should only be a file channel-prefs.js in the pref folder.
Digging a little deeper, going to the prefs file of the defaults folder, I find the following; channel-prefs, firefox, firefox-branding, firefox-l10n, itms, reporter.
