while downloading, the Download Window is empty and remains so once it's complete. How do I get the downloading file info to display in this window?

Did you check the settings?
- Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history" >"Remember what I've downloaded"
Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
- Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
