How to undo recent Firefox upgrade? McAfee Anti-Virus Plus Virus Protection no longer compatible.
A newer version of Firefox has been upgraded on my laptop. After the upgrade, a message came up that my McAfee Anti-virus Plus would no longer be compatible with the newer version of your product.
I still have several more months use of this virus protection and do not have the money to buy something else. I need the virus protection to work, and need detailed instructions as to how to go back to the older version 4 of Firefox.
If you can not help me, I will have to go to IE and I really don't want to do that.
I have a fairly new laptop purchased in Oct. 2010 and am running Windows 7 operating system.
Thank you.

Mary Anne, you'd better ask this question on the McAfee forums as well. Go to https://community.mcafee.com/community/home and register for a user account, then post the question. You're the second person I've seen who says they have this problem, and I don't think a new version of Firefox should suddenly be incompatible with your antivirus protection.
Mary Anne, Only the SiteAdvisor extension is incompatible and that is being worked on, estimated solution mid-July. By the way, it isn't just McAfee's browser extension, Norton's Safe Web and I believe others are also similarly affected. The only browser safety extension not affected is WOT because it works differently.
All I see are people saying, "wait till it's corrected". I have a different issue where my other programs are not compatible with 5. I need to go back to 4, I use those programs often. HOW DO I GO BACK? That was the question. Can I or can I NOT return to 4?

Thank you much loveualatte. Your answer actually made the most sense. Other replies were telling me to do things I had already tried with no success.
One solution was worded in such a way that it made little sense to me. The instructions for undoing the update were much like reading pig latin. I was never much good at speaking that language.
If I have any more problems, I think I will just ask you first if that is ok.
I am still learning.
A good laugh for you. The first time in '97 that I got my first computer, the second thing I did after I turned on the computer, was to somehow delete the operating system.
College courses were no help, so I decided to start the school of trial and error. that has been and still is the best teacher.
Have a great evening.

Thank You so much loveualatte! I have been so agitated since the (upgrade?) more appropriately named DOWNGRADE. I tried what you said but Fire Fox 4 was no where to be found any where in my computer, but I did go to the site and re-download it. Again Thanks
Ugh..same issue with Norton antivirus
