I have to get authentication for an application I am using. The app tries to open a copy of Firefox to retrieve and display a form. I get message "Unable to access Internet" each time I have tried. Yet, I am happily using the internet for several network apps and UDP msgs and email etc. I have tried setting Internet security to "LOW" and I have turned off the firewall in each case as well as trying both together I get the "Unable to access Internet"

Which application is that happening with? Does it use remote XUL? Did that happen with Firefox 4.0 and 4.0.1, too?

If it does involve remote XUL, this extension allows you to setup a whitelist for being able to allow remote XUL for specific domains that you add to the whitelist.

I count tell you I'm afraid, it is only a one off thing brought in by the author to overcome some security issues with his software (he is a real intelligent guy that can wite incredible software, but his "Help" is always set at his level rather than mine. All I can get is that "the app is trying to open a browse window". I know for a fact that at least 300 odd other users have done it without this problem.
