FF5 and FF6 exhibit a different behavior than an earlier version once did. At one time I could Bookmark All Tabs and all tabs would be bookmarked, even if some of them are duplicates of each other. In FF5 & FF 6, only one of each tab is bookmarked no matter how many duplicate tabs I have open. Is this behavior as designed, or a bug?

The behavior I expect, and desire, is that if I have 10 tabs with the same URL, all 10 would be bookmarked when I bookmark All Tabs.

I certainly had a problem with that when it was said it was going to happen and I made sure all my duplicates that I could find had the url modified in some way. If you have several bookmarks with the same url and different keywords they would all become the same -- that one would have killed me but as it turned out I only had about five of them and managed to make the urls unique -- but it is nonsense. I think it may have been for synchronizing bookmarks. I know that when I was trying it in the beta that it did not apply to all bookmarking, Don't think it applied to drag and drop.

I can't find any configuration variable that I changed, and when bookmarking tabs I use "Multiple Tab Handler" to make a selection of tabs to bookmark, and I just did that creating duplicates in another folder without losing any.

by the way The "add bookmark to here2" extension has an option to not include app-tabs and I have that option, but that's not how I'm bookmarking a group of tabs.

I'm using Firefox 6.0 on Windows 7.

Would you check out the Multiple Tab Handler. I don't have Tab Mix Plus but if you do that could interfere with both Firefox and and any other tab related extension.

If it works using a selection with Multiple Tab Handler and that would be preferred to bookmark all tabs then I think you would have your solution. If it doesn't work for you I can't think of anything else I've changed that would affect that.

By the way don't delete a bookmark with the bookmark star if it indicates "Remove 2 bookmarks" -- must have tested this several times before because the one I just tested showed up as "Remove 4 bookmarks". You can delete single bookmarks from folders or from the bookmarks sidebar or from the library list just watch out for wording on the star on the location bar when deleting there.

Bookmark handling extensions, that you would want to have in working with these things are below and you will find a link to the extensions in the last item.

Thanks to one of your suggestions, I was able to get the desired behavior. When I went into Show All Bookmarks I was able to go into that tab folder and copy the one I wanted to duplicate and copy and paste it as many times as I wanted, so that works.

While it's not as convenient as simply bookmarking all tabs when I had them open, it simple enough.

I was wondering how you checked that out so quickly, but the Multiple Tab Handler should do what you asked in your question the way you wanted to do it. You should look at it because it does a lot of work with tabs

  • bookmarking selections of tabs
  • creating lists involving titles and url in various format such as was used in my first reply. Handy also for email the titles and links of what is on tabs bar to someone.
  • I populate tabs strip from a bookmarks folder, and then use the the extension to pin all or most of then as app-tabs.
  • especially useful with app-tabs because they are kept longer and are at the left is the ability of Multiple Tab Handler to close all tabs to the right of the active tab, also left, other, selected, other might be unselected tabs.
  • Features it has fills my window top to bottom.

"Add Bookmark Here2" is actually more important to me though, as it provides for a keyword shortcut to be included immediately in the star dialog when bookmarking and to expand the lists, and to get rid of the tags which I find annoying and useless to me Firefox is not delicious where tags do work based on sheer numbers of people creating them.

I will be checking Multiple Tab Handler out. I do appreciate the suggestion. I always welcome a well-written, useful add-on. I have, in fact, installed it and just haven't had a chance to restart yet.

Thanks again.
