Why does 6.0.2 crash on 2 laptops & one desktop if let open for a couple hours? I've never had this problem before

I've had nothing but trouble with 6.02 Firefox. On my 3 machines, 2 laptops and a desktop if I leave Firefox open, not being used it will lock up - 'non-responsive' after an hour or so. Every time.

From what I have been reading, I think I should ask why firefox 6 is always 'hanging' instead of crashing. Thanks for your help

So there aren't any crash reports visible on the about:crashes page?

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

I didn't find crash reports on the one laptop I had used previously-maybe it doesn't hang up. But this desktop has tons of crash reports. This computer has Kaspersky and the 2 laptops have AVG which just uses Windows Firewall. When Kaspersky expires, I'm going to change to AVG.

Somewhere I read a report saying the video card needed upgrading to 10.6 on the desktop ATI. I don't how that would apply to built in video on laptops

Here is one crash report:

The one laptop that didn't hangup is XP home whereas the other laptop and desktop are XP Pro.

@Argonaut

That looks like a problem with the Mozilla ActiveX plugin:

  • Process Type plugin Version: Filename: npmozax.dll

The Mozilla ActiveX plugin is not compatible with Firefox 2 versions and later and you should remove it.
For instructions on how to remove the Mozilla ActiveX plugin see:

Thanks I'll try that after work although I have had versions 3-5 with no problems.

@cor-el

You might be onto something. The 2 computers with firefox that hangs have the activeX plugin installed. The one laptop with no hanging, didn't have activeX.

On the 2 troublesome machines, I disabled the active x in firefox. I'll remove them later when I have time. Thanks again.
