Firefox 8 on Windows 7 (64) Synaptics touchpad scrolling with two finger gesture does not work. Works in any other program.
ui.trackpoint_hack.enabled = 1 does not help. All Plugins and drivers (Synaptics) up to date. Samsung 900x3a. Cursor changes icon when performing two finger gesture but does not scroll. No PDF loaded. No other tab open. When PDF loaded in tab the PDF scrolls with gesture. Same problem in Thunderbird 8. Reason to use Chrome as standard browser.

I fixed this problem with this Registry setting:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTPEnh] "UseScrollCursor"=dword:00000000
You could do it faster with by downloading and running this file: ScollingFix.reg (be carefull to click the right link! there are ads)
IT turns off the small scolling icon at the cursor. Bad driver from Synaptics...

I have just re installed Windows 7 and downloaded the latest Firefox 8 now my gestures have stopped working, I used the two finger sweep alot back/forward and now it's gone I thought each version of Firefox was supposed to get better, PLEASE get this sorted?
I have found that the gestures and finger scrolling don't work correctly in Firefox 8 when you have a tab open with a PDF displayed. For example, Tab A is a website, Tab B is a PDF. When I'm navigating through Tab A, the scrolling function doesn't work on that tab, but the PDF on Tab B is scrolling away in the background. Hope that makes sense!
Hi Austin it does make sense but mine isn't working even if I don't have a .PDF open I have had to go back to Firefox 3.6 to have it working again, I should think a simple fix for Mozilla it's not as though enough people haven't asked?
This is not a solution. I can't scroll even with only a single tab open (no PDF loaded anywhere). The topic starter also stated that he has no PDFs open. Just as the topic starter, I'm using a Samsung series 9 laptop, only the 11.6" version - 900x1b.

YOU ARE MY HERO! Gesture scrolling now even works inside Axure. Didn't try your download but [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTPEnh] "UseScrollCursor"=dword:00000000 works just perfect!
do9man -- you're awesome! Thanks for figuring this out, and fixing this bug with the Samsung Series 9 (model np900x3a)! I struggled with this for months, and was "forced" to use Chrome.
After I created the registry key (per your instructions), I rebooted, and scrolling now works with my mouse trackpad. THANKS. Bye-bye Chrome...Hello (again) Firefox.
Yesterday, I updated to Firefox 12 from Firefox 3.6. Now I have this same problem: when I have a pdf open in a browser window I can scroll in that pdf, however I cannot scroll in any other open tab in Firefox. I can scroll in other open programs. The RegEdit solution listed above did not work for me. Does anyone have another idea on how to fix this?
Why has this remained a bug in Firefox since version 4????? This is not a Synaptics driver problem, as my Synaptics Touchpad was working just fine until I updated to Firefox 12. Hello Frustrating.
Update: I went into Options and told FF to simply open all pdf's in Adobe. I am not pleased with any FF after 3.6. Why do companies break the good parts of their programs???

@do9man - you rock. I created an account here just to thank you.
I too, am an a Samsung laptop (Q530) with a Synaptics trackpad and had the same issue with scrolling and open pdf's. I used to ignore it. But with the newest FF (13) and the latest Flash, anytime a video was playing the same issue popped up (no scrolling). I used Regedit to add the new entry suggested by do9man. Both problems... SOLVED!
