I will click a link for a download and the box will pop up saying

"You have chosen to open "blahblah.blah.blah
   Which is a: blah file
   From: www.randomsite.com
What should Firefox do with this file?
        Open with
        Save File"

At this point other than being able to see the box, it is as though it doesn't exist. I can't click okay or cancel or choose what to do. Sometimes after a few minutes it will suddenly work, other times it will just remain until Firefox closes.

Please try deleting the mimetypes.rdf file in the Firefox profile folder. To open the profile folder: Help (Alt + H) > Troubleshooting Information > Open Containing Folder, exit Firefox and delete/rename the file.

How many previous downloads are there in the Downloads dialog window??
{ Ctrl + J } then use the Clear List to clear that window

Downloads list I keep clear fairly often and just recently cleared it. Deleted mimetypes.rdf, still happening.

I have also tried turning off XP compatability but even in native Win7 Ultimate problem still persists.

You can also try resetting all the preferences by deleting the prefs.js file. Please note that this would remove all preferences including that of the installed add-ons.

If the problem persists please also try creating a new profile.

So far a new profile has not fixed anything. As well I've noticed an odd workaround. As well as more to the problem. As soon as I start using Firefox, I can no longer use the minimize, maximize, and close buttons at the top of the window. But, as soon as I right click on them they are useable again. This also allows the Open file dialog to function again.

Though this allows me to have things semi work again, what the heck is wrong with this?

Is there a chance that you are using application virtualization? Also, please note that Firefox will be downloading in the background, so the fact that you are able to click it after some time may be an antivirus software intervening in-between and scanning the network download traffic. You can check that by keeping the downloads folder open. If the file is immediately completed once you are able to click on the window, it means that the file was already downloaded. This is just a hunch :)

The file has not started to download as I haven't told it to save at the point the problem arises, though I checked the download window to be sure. I disabled antivirus to see if that was the problem. It wasn't. Thank you for the help and suggestions BTW.

You can also try to clean install the new version after deleting the Profile Folder as well as the Installation Folder. Please see this for backing up important info. The places.sqlite file stores the bookmarks and history, the key3.db + siqnons.sqlite files are needed to successfully restore the saved passwords etc.

Try to delete the MRU (Most Recently Used) ComDlg32 registry keys with the regedit.exe program.

Navigate to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ComDlg32

Delete the subkeys (LastVisitedMRU and OpenSaveMRU)
