Hi All, I cant download directly to the desktop, Firefox puts the downloads in a folder on the desktop. The path in Options is: C:\Users\DW\Desktop\Desktop. It puts a folder on the desktop called Desktop. I would like to be this: C:\Users\DW\Desktop. Older versions would allow downloading to desktop. I must be missing something? Can anyone help?

Thank you again for helping to figure out whats going on here. This started with version 14, I'm on Vista.

As you wrote, "simple click on Desktop in the left pane, etc." This is what I always did and it worked. Now that doesn't work.

Your prompting had me fiddling around and I found the solution. I click DW in the left pane to bring up the folders in the right pane and select desktop from the right pane. This works!! Go figure!!

Again thanks for the help.  :)

You can change the folder that Firefox uses to save files in the Options window - General panel under Downloads -> Save files to: by clicking the "Browse" button.

Thank you for your reply. I wasn't clear in my first post.

In the Options window - General panel under Downloads -> Save files to: by clicking the "Browse" button. Firefox will not allow me to choose the desktop.

When I choose the desktop Firefox chooses this path instead. The path is this: C:\Users\DW\Desktop\Desktop. And It puts a folder on the desktop called Desktop.

I would like to be able to choose this: C:\Users\DW\Desktop. But it wont let me. Older versions would allow downloading to desktop.

Can you delete the Desktop folder from the desktop (after removing anything you want to save, of course!) and then try again?

On Windows 7 when I click on the Browse button in the Options window General panel, I can simply click on "Desktop" in the left pane, then click on "Select folder".

P.S. It might also help if you start over by resetting your download folder to the default location, then try changing it to the Desktop. See:

Thanks for reporting that you solved the problem. Smart thinking, selecting your C:\Users\DW folder in the left pane, then choosing Desktop in the right pane :)
