A few days ago I started having problems with my bookmarks.

Initially all the bookmarks disappeared and I was unable to get them back from my Synced Firefox bookmark account.

I finally got them back from an old json backup and they are now on my toolbar again but they seem to "misbehave" without reason.

Sometimes whole folders of bookmarks will disappear off the toolbar.

Often, after I shut and start Firefox they appear in a different order than how I left them.

Problems with bookmarks and history not working properly can be caused by a corrupted places.sqlite database file.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.

You may have to disconnect temporarily from Sync ("unlink this device") to recover properly.

I unlinked the device, deleted the places.sqlite, restored the bookmarks as desired, restarted Firefox, relinked device but the problem persists.

Bookmarks folders lose order and whole folders/bookmarks appear twice

Does this corruption only happen if sync is enabled?

I have disabled Sync and tried to restore the bookmarks from a json backup I had.

No bookmarks appeared after the restore, although I had a look in the json file and it does contain bookmarks.

I am now re-collecting my bookmarks from scratch and will see if they continue to "misbehave" with Sync turned off.

You can try to restore the bookmarks from an older JSON backup manually (there should be 10) if the most recent backup is already corrupted.
