firefox 18.0.1 about:startpage not working

i have recently installed the latest firefox for linux on an ubuntu based distro. When i first used mozilla it went to the homepage : about:startpage . However, it did not work...neither the search nor any other buttons, such as downloads, history, bookmarks, etc seemed to be working. nothing happened when i clicked these buttons. how could i solve this problem?

about:startpage is that something added by you or by your Linux distro?

about:home is the default homepage in Firefox when it comes from Mozilla.

yes...thank you that worked...about:home works just fine...thank you so very much :) ...probably it has sth to do with my linux distro :/
