Firefox now refuses to start, I get the error message "We're sorry, Firefox had a problem and crashed...", which gives me the options to either restart or quit. Restart just causes the same error message to appear again.

I have tried starting in safe mode; makes no difference, the same thing happens.

I have tried renaming folders and profiles; makes no difference.

I have even uninstalled and removed every trace of Firefox from my PC, but after reinstalling it STILL crashes in the exact same way.

Oh, and before anyone suggests; I'd LOVE to do the old reset firefox "solution" - but Mozilla, in their infinite wisdom, decided to make it so you can only do that from WITHIN firefox itself, and since the problem is I can't get into the damn thing to begin with, that advice is largely useless!

We're sorry to hear that your Firefox seems to be crashing when you open it. Please perform the following steps to give us a crash report ID that helps us find out more about the cause of the crash.

  1. Press the following shortcut to get a Run window: [Windows] + [R]. This should bring up a window that contains a text field.
  2. In that text field, enter %APPDATA% and press Enter. An explorer window should open.
  3. From that explorer window, double-click on the Mozilla folder, then double-click on Firefox and then on Crash reports. Double-click on submitted.
  4. Now, you should see a list of files that contain reports. Go to View > Arrange Icons by > Modified to get the most recent files at the top of the window.
  5. Open the most recent 5 files with a text editor and copy the IDs.
  6. Paste each ID with bp- into the reply window on the forums.

Thanks in advance!

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

I've been having the exact same problem with Firefox 22.0 but I am running Mac OS X. I've updated OS X, also Flash, and Firefox. When I try to open, even in safe mode, and attempt to login to any site (Facebook, gmail, etc.) it crashes. Sometimes I just try to open up another new tab and it crashes. And mostly it just crashes after being open for about 5 seconds. I've tried everything I know to do and have resorted to using Safari for now, although it is slower than Firefox. (when Firefox is working that is) I am stumped as I have never had this much problem with Firefox before. Occasionally it might crash after I've got 10 tabs open but I am lucky to have it stay open at all. ANY suggestions for MAC OS X would be appreciated.

Ran Microsoft Security Essentials, found nothing.

Mine won't even open; just crashes as soon as I click on it.

Run all the tools, each may find diff malware.

I've scanned everything using MacKeeper and there were no viruses or any critical issues found. I can open Firefox but sometimes it will just crash without opening any page or a second tab. It is now Always crashing within 5 seconds of logging in to a site: re: Youtube, or facebook or gmail. Even in safe mode. I have searched through the Mozilla help pages and have looked into the cache and followed all instructions but it still will not work. Go figure..... Does anyone have experience with a Mac and these issues surrounding Firefox? This only started three days ago. It has crashed upon nearly every time I have tried to open it, or at least within 5 seconds of opening. Does anyone have any other ideas? I've send in the report each time to Mozilla.
