Specifically there is a very noticeable lag time on clicks to change tabs and also there is a lag in typing response. Response within different web pages is uniformly slow so it is not the page but likely the browser that is causing the problem, I think. Pages with interactive graphics are quite slow to respond. Closing down FF sometime helps for a while but the problem comes back after a while. very annoying. Thanks for any help. Windows 7 64bit AMD 6 core

It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.

Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

See:

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.
