How do I re-download my emails from Gmail?

I suffered a disk failure (XP SP3) and have now re-loaded an old copy of my full system including Thunderbird - it is working fine. I have then "marked" my recent emails in GMail as "Unread" and placed them in its Inbox, but they do not download. I do not see an option in Thunderbird Server Settings for POP to re-download. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks.

When you setup an email account with POP they are not usually left on the server. It is IMAP accounts that sync mail with the server. If you email is saved on the gmail webmail, you can setup your email account with IMAP on Thunderbird and the gmail messages will download to Thunderbird.

Thanks Perry. This worked for me. Now to decide whether to stay with IMAP or revert to POP. Thanks again.
