Has this ever worked for you? If so, when did it stop working?

Issues like this are often related to entries in the Address Book being in the wrong fields, which usually comes about from having imported addresses from somewhere else and not matching up the data fields in Thunderbird's Address Book with the fields in the data being imported.

Open your Address Book and scrutinize your Contacts; are all the email addresses actually in a field for email addresses, and not somewhere else? "Nicknames" seems to be a common location for mis-placed email addresses.

This solution also worked for me on 11-11-14. All the imported contact email addresses ended up in the "Nickname" box instead of email address box. I put the addresses in the correct box and everything worked ok.
