why do they ask for a password for imap etc

I got a new computer and have set up thunder bird for email. I tried to write and send and it asks for a password for stmp & imap ,I do not have a password, What do they want. After clicking send it went on &on that it was in progress until I canceled it.

All email accounts have passwords. If you do not know what yours is you need to work with your email provider to reset it to something that you can remember. Go to your providers web mail or email help page and look for a link to reset a forgotten password.
