why isnt address book collecting any longer?

Now when I have sent or replied to an e-mail I expect the addressee to be in personal or collected but now it's rare for this to happen. Formerly when I was the only user addresses were collected o k.

If you are talking about email addresses you sent an email to that were not previously in any address book, then they would be collected in the designated address book.

'Tools' > 'Options' > 'Composition' > 'Addressing ' tab select: 'Automatically add outgoing email addresses to my: Select: Collected Addresses. Click on OK

You need to be aware that it is not wise for users to share the same Thunderbird Profile.

It would be ok, if you are a business and this computer runs Thunderbird for only a business mail account and more than one person needs to have access to and see the business mail account.

If you are husband and wife and do not care if each other sees each others emails and access to private data such as passwords, then it is ok.

If there are two or more people sharing a computer and you do not want to have other people accessing your private emails nor more importantly having access to your passwords, then create 'User Accounts' on your computer via the Control Panel. One User Account per person. User Accounts can be set up to have a password. Thunderbird runs within each User Account. You set up mail accounts and the data is stored within the User Account Appdata file. So now if you do not have the User Account password, you cannot access each others Thunderbird mail accounts.

These days I am using my son's laptop and missed the vital item of setup you mention. Thankyou. I have done a bit of exploration of my recent SENT folder and found some addresses are either slow to store (uk.amz.hk@...) or too freaky to accommodate (&midb-uk...) in the address book.
