I am on a mac OS X Yosemite, Firefox got slow and then crashed. I have uninstalled it but, when I try to reinstall it crashes upon opening. Any thoughts?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift (Mac Options) > key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?

If you can get in, look again for crash reports as instructed above.

Also;

Type about:addons<Enter> in the address bar to open your Add-ons Manager. Hot key; <Control>(Mac:<Command>)<Shift> A)

In the Add-ons Manager, on the left, select Extensions. Disable a few add-ons, then Restart Firefox.

Some added toolbar and anti-virus add-ons are known to cause Firefox issues. Disable All of them.

If the problem continues, disable some more (restarting FF). Continue until the problem is gone. After, you know what group is causing the issue. Re-enable the last group ONE AT A TIME (restarting FF) until the problem returns.

Once you think you found the problem, disable that and re-enable all the others, then restart again. Let us know who the suspect is detective.

In the address bar, type about:crashes<enter>. Note: If any reports do not have BP in front of the numbers, click it and select Submit.

Using your mouse, mark the most resent 7 - 10 crash reports, and copy them. Now go to the reply box below and paste them in.

If you can't get Firefox to open, you will have to do this the hard way. Open the file browser / explorer on your computer. Enter this;

%APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Crash Reports\submitted

Copy the last 5-7 Recent File Names in the folder, including the date and time created. Post all the information in the reply box below.

I thank you for your suggestions, however, this did not fix the problem. I have reset to default and started in safe mode. Both result in the same problem, Firefox opens to the us.search.yahoo.com site and then stops responding and I have to force quit FF. I can't get to the extensions to turn them off or on. Thanks, Wood

Type about:config<Enter> in the address bar. If a warning screen comes up, press the Be Careful button. This is where Firefox finds information it needs to run. At the top of the screen is a search bar. Type Yahoo

For each entry, double click and select Modify Change all the settings to; about:blank (a blank page),

Once you are done, restart Firefox normally.

Thanks for the help. I would not have found that hidden data on my own. Unfortunately, there are no recorded crash reports made to Firefox. There is only one record of a Force Quit report made to Apple even though I have made about 2 dozen. Here it is

OK... so I have another external hard drive with Yosemite on it. I started up from that hard drive and downloaded Firefox. I worked just fine. So I re-installed Yosemite on my original internal hard drive and tried loading Firefox again and back to the same problem.

Alrighty den... I downloaded AppTrap from downloads.com. I was then able to delete all of the associated Firefox files hidden on my computer with this program. Once done, I was easily able to reinstall Firefox and import my settings from Safari. I am back in the groove. Thank you all for helping me narrow down the problem.
