How can I lower volume on Yahoo start page and news ads?

I use Yahoo for a start page and when I click on a news story there's always an ad that blasts at full volume. I've tried setting the volume lower on the ad and also muting, but with each new news article it's the same loud volume. Is there a way to permanently decrease the volume using a browser setting? I don't use Adobe Flash.

Currently there is only a mute and unmute feature in the tab, however in WIndows 7 you can control the volume from the Volume Mixer by application:

Thank you. I just noticed under the mixer that there is the option to adjust the volume for Firefox, so I set it lower and that worked. :)
