i cannot get or send e mails it keeps asking for passwords that we constantly re enter every time we open this application.
we have been using this account for many years but now it will not receive e mails as it constantly asks for a password, which we enter but it fails. this is frustrating as we run our business through this account!

Does your email service provider offer the option to access your account via a webmail (browser) interface? If so, can you log in successfully using the same username and password that you have stored in Thunderbird?
I finally gave up and switched to another app. None of the 'fixes' would make a permanent fix. After a couple of weeks, I had to re-enter my PW's for each one of my mail boxes. It just became too much of an aggravation.
