(Newtab - TILES) No matter how I try; I simply can't manage to create new tabs
So far I've followed every piece of advice and all instructions, but when I get to the part where I'm supposed to use : open in new tab -- that option just isn't there (see attached screenshots) .
I really need some help; -- anybody ?
Greetings from Happy112 (not feeling very happy at the moment)

AH those are Tiles (We were not supposed to call them that a while ago - long story)
OK the page you are looking at is the newtabs page.
You have two tabs open in that window.
- The Shadow
- The newtab page (That has its own special address about:newtab )
You have in your screenshot 10 visible tiles and two spaces for tiles.. You may drag bookmarks to make tiles. Look at
- Customize your New Tab page to hide or display content
- New Tab page in Firefox
- Customize your Firefox New Tab page_add-a-tile-from-your-bookmarks

Goodmorning !
'Was in bed by 02.05AM -- jumped out of bed ten minutes later, because I realized that I hadn't marked one of your replies as solved yet.
'Just randomly picked one of your answers ; -- so, if the chosen solution doesn't make any sense to you: here's why.
I'm still not gonna let this go though; I'll keep on trying until I get it right !
One of the things that I don't get: even after chosing English to be the standard language (which I normally don't): the websites are in English, but the dropdowns and menues are in Dutch and are completely different from the ones you show me (by the way: I put an 'e' in menues -- is that the correct plural form ? )
Have a lovely day !
Cheers,
sleepy Dopey (or whatever you wanna call me)
'Been trying to figure this thing out once and for all over the past five hours or so, and I've come to the conclusion: you can create bookmarks (piece of cake); you can create new tabs (every time you open a new website that's what you do anyway), But: you cannot create tiles !!!
Tiles will appear after you've visited a certain website (favourite website) many times, and it's up to you to leave those tiles where they are and use them as shortcuts or remove them.
There was this poor guy some weeks ago who posted a question here about how he had lost 90% of his 280 tabs , while of course he meant bookmarks !
Somebody should write an article about this topic, cause I am sure that it's not just he and I who have a hard time wrapping our brain around all this .........
Over the past few hours I wound up downloading files and folders; 'been aksed how I wanted to open them, what the result was of those actions only gave me the creeps, so those files and folders wound up in the recycle bin.
From now on: when I want to visit a certain website I'll use either shortcuts or Google, and I'll use a tile if it conveniently happens to be there but I'm not going to waste anymore of my time (or yours !) on this futile 'problem' !
There's a lot more I'd like to say to you, but that wouldn't be appropriate here on this forum (now, that would really be way 'off topic' ), so I'll just say:
Thank you so much for being there for me; you've been a great help and that means a lot to me !
Have a lovely day and take care of yourself .......
Cheers,
Dopey.
P.S. and of course it's not menues , but menu's (right ?)
didn't get on that train after all; it's way too cold in Coventry

Good-morning/afternoon Sleepy,
Spelling & Spellcheckers
The plural of menu is menus It's also not menu's that's jokingly called a greengrocers apostrophe lppk at this image search. People are fairly flexible about some spellings in daily use. Formal and informal/modern use may differ as will many US spellings. You have mentioned ignoramus & ignorami I don't think that is correct it should be ignoramuses . It is another (http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/wor.../plurals-of-nouns } misconception that octopi is correct. It is not, but both cactuses & cacti are correct. My spell-checker accepts both spellings. Hippopotamus may be hippopotamuses or hippopotami. Firefoxes may be presumed to be the plural of Firefox whereas Firefox's is when it belongs to Firefox so Firefox's menus. Just use a spellchecker it is so much easier.
- How do I use the Firefox spell checker?_switching-dictionaries
- And maybe adda search engine for spellings so you may quickly check from the searchbar
- Configuration Options for Search
- Add or remove a search engine in Firefox
- Maybe try the english wictionary one from https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/firefoxes <== use the plus sign in the green circle on the left of your searchbar
or from the hundreds here
I am hopeless with spellings, and careless with typing. After leaving school i could rely on secretaries to use the correct then using computers spellcheckers would help. Maybe try this fun page from the BBC.
Tabs Tiles & Wikipedia etc Languages
I thought you had sorted out the Tiles. The should drag and drop from bookmarks if you wish to add some more. You may also delete pin or rearrange, but you are limited to a small number apparently 12 in your screen size and zoom factor. (There is the persona replacement but it may get flaky and you are probably better using bookmarks What is Persona? )
Have you noticed Wikipedia and many other sites have language choices. For instance I posted a link to the Simple English version to explain tabs.
Just about all it contained was a screeenshot of Firefox tabs, and a screenshot of a text processors tabs. - The full English version is wikipedia.org/wiki/Tab_(GUI) is a much longer version that will scroll over a few screens
- Unfortunately it is NOT available in Dutch nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tab_(GUI) the they do translate a bookmarks article https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bladwijzer_(software)
The Simple English versions where available use only a restricted range of words and avoid unnecessary jargon. They are often much shorter explanations. Dutch translations may be worth looking for.
I note you have the Dutch version of Firefox so maybe you are seeing the help articles in Dutch when I use the generic link
- So the English article https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-use-firefox-spell-checker#w_switching-dictionaries
- You may see instead the Dutch version when using the generic link How do I use the Firefox spell checker?
- Direct or redirecting links:
https://support.mozilla.org/nl/kb/hoe-gebruik-ik-spellingcontrole-van-firefox#w_switching-dictionaries
https://support.mozilla.org/nl/kb/how-do-i-use-firefox-spell-checker#w_switching-dictionaries
You will need to scroll in those links to find the position in the page, that is a forum/kb bug.
- Direct or redirecting links:
Have you discovered google translate ? That will translate text or even full web pages. It may not be perfect but it is pretty good. In fact you seem fluent in English so I doubt you will really need it for English -Dutch but it may come in handy sometimes.
- see wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_Translate
http://www.wikihow.com/Use-Google-Translate - use https://translate.google.com/
- Example wikihow
The Google translate does not work on everything, and sometimes takes a while. I guess if it is something Google has not already indexed it is slow, but it usually takes only a few seconds. Screenshot attached.
Right Click etc
It seems we still need to sort that out.
You can try duplicating tabs (These are the tabs at the top not the tiles) by a three fingered Ctrl+LeftClick Drag (Keep your finger on all three and move the tabs copy to be between another tab) You can try Shift+LeftClick to open a link in a new window.
I am not sure how often I will be by the computer today. You have lots of stuff to look at and try out if you feel like it.
Bookmarks are way more convenient than saving things, unless it is something fleeting, very important or likely to change.
I often come back to the computer or this site intermittently while doing other things so I do not often answer anything immediately, and it may be hours, days or sometimes weeks before I reply. I will certainly look back here again tonight if not before.
edit fixed some typos, missing links and spelling mistakes

Hiya Smartalick !
First of all: just like you I have other things to do as well; I don't have to go the office, but work at home (that's why I use Word ).
I don't know how you do it, but over the past few months you've managed to make me smile; frown; laugh out loud; swear; cry; grin; use every expletive there is in the dictionary and make up some new ones; laugh again; sigh; giggle; verbally explode; cry some more; laugh again ........
During the past 24 hours you've made me do all of the above; quite an achievement !
Spell checker : hyphen or interspace ? Oh well; I'm not a nitpicker, but anyway:
One of the first things I did when I got my laptop: get rid of that annoying spell checker !
I'm aware of the fact that I make a lot of errors (spelling-wise and otherwise), but I'm afraid that my grammar leaves even more to be desired ........
As far as the 'bookmark-tab-tile-soap' is concerned: I'm not really into soaps (except maybe 'Doctors' as a guilty pleasure), so, if it's alright with you I'm no longer going to rack my brain with that futile 'problem' (for now, anyway).
When I first started reading your last message, I laughed and laughed ...... then you made me get up, get a dictionary, because I could have sworn that ignoramus was Latin and therefore the plural form would be ignorami .... But if I remember correctly, I was referring to myself and said that in this case it should be ignorama, but thought that it looked 'weird'.
I'm surprised that you even remembered, though !
And none of this is even remotely related to the topic of this thread, and you know what ? Big relief !
But still, like I said before: there's so much more I'd like to say to you, but definately not here !
And as I know that you do not (or hardly) respond to private
messages , I'll just say:
Take care of yourself and enjoy life ......
Cheers,
Happy112; Chuckles; Dopey; Sleepyhead;
Crybaby; Nutcase or just plain Amy - (you pick your choice).
Got my bags packed, just in case ......
Edit added: 'or just plain Amy'
