Unable to reset password
I am unable to sign in. My password reset doesn't work 1: Click on "My password isn't working" 2: Enter email address. 3: Receive confirmation. 4: Enter new password. 5: Enter username and new password. 6: Receive the message "Please enter a correct username and password. Note that both fields are case-sensitive."
I have entered both my username and my email address. I have entered as many passwords as I can remember using in my lifetime. Nothing seems to work.
I have just created a new username with a new email address and it seems to work. Past experience has shown that once I leave this session I will never, ever, be able to logon again. So, this is my only attempt to ask a question. My next attempt will fail because I can't logon.
My inability to logon is long standing, going back for a couple of years or so. There is no way that I know of to ask a question unless I am logged on, and there is no way to logon. Catch-22.
Since I am unable to logon I don't believe that there is any way that I can verify any answer directly, and I can't respond to give any more needed information. I am stuck.

Thanks to all. Madasan resolved the issue. As I expected (sigh) it was my fault. My username was incorrect. However the issue still remains that there seems to be no way for someone who can't log on to communicate and the failure message does not identify the exact cause of failure, viz., it is a username issue or it is a password issue. Instead, the message indicates that it is either a username issue or a password issue.
I don't use "master passwords" or any such like in any of my internet interactions. Unless I understand exactly where the password is stored and have a guarantee that this storage place is inaccessible and not hackable I prefer to keep my usernames/passwords separately. Paranoia, yes. Unhackable, yes. Oh, I'm also a troglodyte and do not have a cell phone (or smartphone). Annoys my friends, yes. Annoys me, no.

Two correction: (1) I don't think that Mozilla/Firefox is at fault - I forgot my username, and (2) you're characterization of what went wrong is erroneous. I was not trying to register a new account. I was trying to change the password for an existing account. This is were experience seems to show your characterization incorrect. If the browser shows the signon page, and if a user clicks on "Forgot my password" then the next page allows a password change message to be emailed. The user does not have to be registering a new account.
Providing a registered email address is sufficient to authenticate the legitimacy of the request. But there is no validation that the username is correct, that is, the username and the authentication are not synced. For me that means that I endlessly change my password and endlessly fail to logon using an incorrect username.
The assumption made by Firefox is reasonable. Why would someone who is a registered user not know their username? The flaw is that that can happen and there is no way to request the username because you need to logon to ask a question.
The fault is mine (don't get old), but it would be nice for Mozilla/Firefox to rethink their signon procedures and see if there is some reasonable why for a user to ask a question when unable to logon.
Please keep up the good work. art
