While reading email, I have a 1 to 2 second pause between a click and the action. Why? (win7)

The question, along with sometimes clicking a link leading to a totally blank new tab page, and some picture frames show up empty or sometimes in additional frames that are shown below the message are quite annoying at times. Sometimes a second click on a link will result in the link being shown. I have looked without finding anything to change to eliminate it.

Start *Windows'* safe mode with networking enabled - win7 http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-computer-safe-mode#start-computer-safe-mode=windows-7
