Whenever I switch tabs the url text is marked and I have to press right arrow key or use my mouse to unmark it which is really annoying. Can I somehow disable this feature?

Is this about the URL that you see in the location/address bar?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
