Kaspersky protection not working with Firefox 58.0
I've been using Firefox successfully with Kaspersky Total Security in Windows 10, which updated to the latest version a few days ago. Today when I switched the computer on, the Kaspersky Protection symbol in the menu bar was greyed out (produces a strange crossed-out eye -x- screen symbol when clicked) and Firefox can't access any https web sites, presumably because their certificates are managed via Kaspersky. Under 'Add-ons' an error message is listed under Kaspersky Protection: "Reading manifest: Error processing background. persistent: Event pages are not currently supported. This will run as a persistent background page."
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox, disabling and re-enabling Total Security, but with the same results.

Kaspersky are acknowledging that it is something they need to fix. Temporary solution (tested and working with FF58):
1. In a new tab in Firefox, type or paste "about:config" in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful. 2. In the search box above the list, type or paste "roots" and pause while the list is filtered 3. Double-click the "security.enterprise_roots.enabled" preference to switch the value from false to true.

The add-on for Firefox is not working due to a mistake made by Kaspersky. The rest of the Total Security application should be working fine.
Contact Kaspersky support and let them know about that error.
Thanks for your help, I'm waiting for a reply from Kaspersky. I have rolled back to version 57 and blocked updates, and that seems to have provided a temporary solution. As you say the rest of Total Security works OK.
Or find a better A/V that works. I have Defender and have no issues as to what you said on Kaspersky.

Update: I have tried two fixes suggested by Kaspersky including replacing the root certificate, and while that seems to work initially the problem recurs (in version 58) after 2-3 restarts. I have gone back to version 57.0.4, which seems stable. So possibly an issue with Kaspersky not catching up with the latest version of Firefox? Of the current options I prefer to keep Kaspersky Total Security with Firefox 57.
Staying with FF57 provides no security as that is outdated now and Kaspersky will probably offer no more security as well.

The "chosen solution" works for a while, but after a restart the problem returns even though the setting remains.
I have to place this problem as being with Firefox, not Kaspersky because no other browser has this problem.
i'm not a computer person, and all of this info registers as "blah blah blah" in my head. the result is that i just won't use firefox any more! i tried following your instructions to fix the problem, but that would have turned off the safe money feature of my kaspersky, leaving my financial info vulnerable. if i can work just as quickly with microsoft edge, without the annoying and frankly stupid problems, why wouldn't i? i don't understand why you don't work with kaspersky and avoid these problems before they occur. and, by the way, you say it's a kaspersky problem, but their tech says it's a firefox problem. AND YOU OFFER NO REAL TIME CHAT ASSITANCE!!! what's that about??!? a defective product and nobody to help. classy.

i agree... microsoft edge and internet explorer are both fine. so what's the deal, firefox?
I have the same issue as Dulverton described above. Setting the security.enterprise_roots.enabled to true permenantly fixed the 'connecting to the internet' problem but it doesn't solve the Kaspersky protection add on in FF not working (strange eye crossed out as described above). KIS support suggested a manual reinstall of the add-on (makes no difference) and of the KIS. This initially works and the tick is back on the KIS Add-on but fairly quickly (from minutes to a day or so) it fails again. Never had the problem before FF 58. Is there anything different about the way 58 handles addons that might be something I could suggest to support?
Still have this issue on Firefox 59 on some computers. I can access HTTPS websites but the KIS features doesn't work on Firefox. All the parent control, privacy or web page scan are not functioning properly on Firefox.
