Firefox 57.0.4 problems are NOT SOLVED, so stop saying they are

There is a quite a long list of 57.0 4 problems that are clearly causing a raft of issues. Someone is making out that many are solved, when they clearly are not!

Who ever it is, stop doing it until both the people and you are mutually agreed it has been resolved.

Since, installing 57.0.4. I get a banner message when trying to open some sites,saying "A web page is slowing down your browser. What would you like to do" - with a choice to either 'Stop it' or to select 'Wait'. How does one know which site is the cause, and hence, which site Firefox will Stop? What does Wait actually mean. What ever you choose, the header message will reappear in a few minutes repeatedly.

Is it the site one is trying to open, or one that is already open, etc.

The underlying cause appears to be upgrading to 57.0.4.

I followed your link added the JS Toggle On and Off. It indicates it is running with a JS in the header (to disable if required), but under add ins/extension.options, there isn't Black list option! Only the Firefox and add in tab are free of the message "A web page is slowing down your browser. What would like to so..."

Part of the issue, is the Firefox messages doesn't indicate what page is causing the problem, so how can you use a tool like the Toggle even if it had the Black list option?

It seems to me that the real issue here, is that a user can't reverse a Firefox upgrade. So when as is the case with 57.0.4 that is it causing a myriad problems, there isn't an already prepared plan to reverse that, and revert to your earlier version - we are stuffed and frustrated and likely to leave Firefox telling everybody what carp browser it is. I don't want to become that frustrated user, but clearly that is what others are saying.

This reversible path should be a standard for all new versions.

Between my earlier reply and this one Firefox wasn't responding in fact my whole desktop locked, even Ctrl+Alt+delete!

One of the sites that may have been trigger for the message was Loomio, an online discussion tool for member groups. I contacted their support regarding the issue, and they responded saying they had tried, but failed, to replicate the problem, but noted it was with a later version, 58.0.1. So, suggested I upgrade which I did and it may have resolved the issue. I have opened a number of tabs, and they are all working and none, have the message "Web page is causing your browser to slow down, etc.", unlike yesterday when they all had this message.

This message isn't helpful because it doesn't identify the actual page that Firefox perceives the problem to be! So, from user perspective, selecting either of the options didn't give me any idea of the consequence of the choice, eg, would Stop, lead to stopping everything, or one of the tabs not visible, etc.

P.s. The Toggle extension is now working it required a firefox re-start! Thank you.

That message appears when the page which is slowing Firefox down is loading. Load one page at a time and that should be the page which loading slow.

Plus, you should check those pages while using the Firefox Safe Mode, a troubleshooting mode. Help > Troubleshooting Information >> Try Safe Mode

The problem has continued with the new version 58.0.1

Essentially had locked up the Desktop - nothing working.

Before doing anything I tried to open Task manager, ie, Ctrl+ALt+Delete. It eventually opened. Although Firefox was stuck with nothing being active, it was the only process using any memory. Outlook was running but not using any memory.

Within Task Manager it indicated only one Firefox tab, Loomio tab. I shut that down. This enabled the other programes to resume.

I re-opened Firefox, closed loomio tab immediately, saved my other tabs to a pocket. Closed and reopened, to home page, Weatherzone, no problems. Opened in safe mode. So 2 tabs were open, weatherzone, and troubleshooting in safe mode.

Opened Loomio. Logging in to get entry to group topics was fine. But once it tried to open the topic, it got stuck with the message A web page is slowing your browser, etc. In safe mode I was at least able to close the Loomio tab.

Copied the Print screen and the Trouble shooting data to a 'word' page.

What next?
