As soon as I upgraded my sound card to a new external audio card (asus u7 MKII) both the latest official release of thuderbird as well the latest beta release crash when it i either receive mail (seams to be resolved by removing the play sound in settings) but also it ALWAYS crashes when I hit SEND on a new message.

I tried every witch way but it's not resolving. the error logs are:

above always mentiones the audio driver....

this one last error is something different but i figured id include it

As you can see, there are red flags for the NVIDIA video driver and the ASUS sound card driver. An update or rollback of either or both of those may be necessary, plus there may be some conflict with Kaspersky Internet Security if you have it scanning email and secure connections (that option should be disabled anyway). I would first disable KIS at startup and see if TB still crashes, and if it does, consider the drivers.

Hey sf,

Thanks so much for your reply.

almost 100% is the audio driver, it's the only new thing (added the day the crashes started) (2 days ago). The only issue is that this is the latest driver from asus, so i don't really have any driver to roll back or switch to.

If i run thunderbird in safe mode it does seam to be more stable and it allows me to send mail, but i would need to figure out this bug and get it fixed, not sure if it's something thunderbird needs to do or asus :(

Another thing that is disabled in TB safe mode is hardware acceleration (Tools/Options/Advanced/General). I suggest you turn it on or off when TB is running in normal mode and see if there's a difference. For most users, it should be off, but some systems perform better when it's on.

As for drivers, i realize there's no earlier sound driver, but a different video driver may be more compatible with the sound card. It has long been known that video drivers can affect audio performance, even with generic sound devices.

i wanted to say thank you sfhowes, i started a bug report on the issues and working with a developer

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1532132

i may end up just returning the sound card, while the audio quality is nice it's already given me issues with several games as well :( sounds like these cards have very old drivers and people lament issues a bit with them.
