I used to be able to have "ask to save login and passwords" prompt off but still have a drop down list of login names for a given site that looked more like an autofill. That is, the site prompts for login, I type a 2 (login names are a long string of numbers) and I was prompted with a list of the login names that began with a 2. I selected the desired number/login and then I entered the password myself so no stored passwords or master password etc. I have tried various forms of Autofill and the prompt for login and password stuff but can't seem to get the desired result. Any ideas about how to get to where I was?

Thanks!

It is not possible to save a blank password. Maybe set a fake one character password like a '?' and clear the password field before typing the correct password. You can create a block exception to prevent Firefox from asking to update the password. You can edit name and password fields in the Password Manager by double-clicking this field or use the right-click context menu.

OK how do I create a block exception so it doesn't ask me if I want to update the password every time? Thank You.

I think I figured it out. So I turned on save Logins and Passwords, saved the login the first time, went into preferences for saved logins and edited the password to a ?, then I copied the URL to the exceptions for saved logins and saved it as being blocked. I now get the drop down for the list of accounts at the sites login prompt and no prompting to save the changed password when I enter the correct password.

I would think that the when I deleted the ? in the password field Firefox SHOULD NOT prompt again with the list of accounts for the URL as it did in the user ID field. At the very least it should be something that I could turn off for password fields.

Thanks for your help.

Sorry! One more thought/desire here. The list presented at the URL login prompt of the multiple accounts for the site should be something that I could control the order of. I want to be able to designate which account number shows where in the presented list. (i.e. most often used appears first) I would think that the order in which the choices are displayed in the Preferences Saved Logins list would allow me to order the list to be presented by dragging entries into the order that I want them to appear for the given site. It seems now that they are in the order in which I added them. If there is a way to affect the displayed list at login beyond deleting entries and reentering them in a desired order please let me know. Thanks again for your attention and patience.
