I just updated to he latest Mac OS (catalina 10.15) last night. Since then new unread email is no longer highlighted with bold text in my inbox. I updated my Thunderbird, as it was also in need of updating, to the latest version but still no bold text on unread emails. And I cannot find any setting that would reverse that. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Please confirm you are currently using Thunderbird version 68.1.1 AS there are reports that it works in that version.

When I click "check updates" Thunderbird says I'm update date using the latest version of Thunderbird for OS x 60.9.0. I just googled 68.1.1 because I thought I was up to date and found 68.1.2. Downloaded it and it seems to be working now. But the Thunderbird "check for updates" feature clearly wasn't working.

Thanks...

Updating from 60 via Help/About TB or autoupdate is currently disabled until the process is ready for wide deployment, probably when 68.2 is released. In the meantime, manual updates are possible by downloading the 68 installer. There shouldn't be any issues with OS X, for which there is a single 64-bit version, but Windows users need to be careful (stay with 32-bit TB if you currently have 32-bit TB, even on 64-bit Windows).

I also just updated to Catalina, but with the upgrade, Thunderbird 60.9.0 (64-bit) does not display unread e-mails in bold. I tried starting in safe mode, disabling extensions, restarting, compacting all to no avail. I do see the blue starburst icon under the dot for the column "sort by read", but would prefer to see unread e-mails in bold the way they have always been displayed.

As mentioned above, this is fixed in TB 68. Get the 68.1.2 installer here:

Thanks the "until the process is ready for wide deployment" comments above made me not want to download someone's beta, but I did update and the unread/not-bold problem is fixed as sfhowes indicates.

Apply the Light or Default theme in Tools/Add-ons/Themes.

re :It is so dark that even if unreaded massage id bolded I can not see it is bolded because it is not visible.

The dark theme will soon get updated (approx 5 weeks from now) so that new and unread mail will appear in a blue coloured font so it will be easier to see. See bug below as it shows some images of the new blue font. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1588000
