So Firefox updated this morning and when I went to look for the Inspector under the Web Developer Tools, it is no longer there. I use this tool all the time and came to count on it. What are my options and is it still available?

Yup, they've removed it in 87. Now you have to go to Application Menu ≡ -> Web Developer and click Web Developer Tools to access Inspector, Web Console, Debugger, Network Style Error, Performance, Storage Inspector, Accessibility, and Application.

If it has been gone since 87, how did I use it yesterday? The Menu now reads Web Developer Tools, Remote Debugging, Browser Console, Responsive Design Mode, Eye Dropper, Page Source, and Extensions for Developers. The is no Inspector or Inspect Elements that I used to use. Is it now under something else?

As I wrote before, Inspector has been changed to Web Developer Tools.

It doesn't work like it used to, so I will just have to use another browser.

I am using 90.0.2 and when I go Application Menu ≡ -> Web Developer I now get a empty menu (see image ). I use to get Inspector, Web Console, Debugger, Network Style Error, Performance, Storage Inspector, Accessibility, and Application .

I can get all the tools if I open a blank window and right click mouse and click either Inspect Accessibly Properties or Inspect, so I spose all is not lost.

I think you're the second person who posted recently about this mysterious empty menu. The Proton redesign in Firefox 89 changed how commands were grouped on the menu -- now they are here:

  • Menu button ≡ > More Tools > Web Developer Tools (opens the panel to last used tool)
  • (menu bar) Tools > Browser Tools > Web Developer Tools (opens the panel to last used tool)

Unfortunately, setting browser.proton.enabled to false causes the More Tools menu items to get completely lost -- they do not migrate back to their earlier locations under the old menu headings. That might be a bug, but the "fix" is going to be removing browser.proton.enabled in Firefox 91.

For now, your options are:

more options

"Menu button ≡ > More Tools > Web Developer Tools (opens the panel to last used tool) "

My version doesnt work like that, it goes: Menu button ≡ >More> with Task Manager, Text Encoding and Work Offline. Web Developer is below More.

"(menu bar) Tools > Browser Tools > Web Developer Tools (opens the panel to last used tool) " This works .... so thats what I will use....

Thanks

Hi AnotherRob, did you change browser.proton.enabled to false in about:config? It looks like that from the tab bar in your screenshot. That wrecks the menu and explains why you don't see the normal items.
