TopSitesColumns?
Hey there! I am looking for a setting that sets the columns in the new tab page.
i know about: "browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.topSitesRows" This is the same as going to the settings and changing it in the drop down menu.
Is there something that can set the quantity of columns?

The number of columns is determined automatically depending on how much space there is (window width) and has a maximum, but it can't be adjusted via about:config.
You can look at this extension:
- New Tab Tools: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/new-tab-tools/
Hi, the extension is no longer maintained. I understand that it adapts to the width, but i still have a lot of space to the sides, a setting to allow up to a certain ammount of columns would be nice. Maybe i can do it through custom.css, by reducing the padding.
Custom rules in a userContent.css file (the lesser known cousin of the userChrome.css file) could be used to modify the width of the centered column. For example:
.ds-outer-wrapper-breakpoint-override main { width: 1280px !important; }
You would have to wrap such rules in userContent.css in a @-moz-document block for safety and stability.
/* about:home - about:newtab */ @-moz-document url-prefix(about:newtab), url-prefix(about:home) { .ds-outer-wrapper-breakpoint-override main { width: 1280px !important; } }

In Firefox 69 and later you need to set this pref to true on the about:config page to enable userChrome.css and userContent.css in the chrome folder.
- about:config => toolkit.legacyUserProfileCustomizations.stylesheets = true

WARNING: modifications made through a userChrome.css or userContent.css file can stop working as Firefox evolves in new releases, and can break Firefox or cause strange behavior.
The problem with both of these solutions, is that the quantity of tiles remain the same, which in turn means that, if i have like i do now, 3 rows with 8 tiles each, and i use a line that changes the distances like that, what happens is that i still have 24 tiles, but end up having them in a weird disposition, for example 10/10/4. These last 4 are not even centered, they are aligned to the left. If i go to the settings and set to 4 rows, it simply adds another 8 tiles to the row3, it fills up all the way to 10, and the 2 extra tiles go to the row 4. The optimal behaviour would be to add rows and have also a setting for columns, this way i could make it, for example 3 rows with 10 tiles each.
You could ask for enough extra rows that you can hide the last one.
This is ridiculous. There used to be a nice, simple setting for this in about:config. You're right, it's gone now. Who's running firefox these days?? Firefox's main selling point has always been customization and configurability with good security. I don't understand reducing functionality. Please put the user back in charge.
"There is no longer a way to manually adjust the number of columns" is just such a weird decision to make. My newtab page could easily fit four additional columns. I'd settle for two.
