I received an email from Microsoft saying I could lose emails on my hotmail account if I don't upgrade any third party mail applications to a version which uses "modern authentication methods now needed to continue syncing Outlook Email in non-Microsoft email apps". I'm not tech savvy but do I assume this means I need to upgrade my Thunderbird account to satisfy their concerns and, if so, how do I do this? Thank you Geoff Smith

I believe that email included a link to the steps:

I think the approach is to set incoming server to outlook.office365.com, SSL/TLS, and Oauth2, and output to smtp.office365.com with STARTTLS and Oauth2.
You won't LOOSE you e-mails as they'll stay on HotMail's server and you'll still be able to manage them by going to HotMail.com in your browser.
To continue to use Thunderbird you need to make a few changes in Account Settings.
Press the Alt-e and a drop-down menu will appear with Account Settings at the bottom. Click that.
On the next screen there's a column on the left. Click Server Settings in that.
In the Server Name box put outlook.office365.com
In User Name put your HotMail e-mail address.
Make sure that Connection security is SSL/TLS
Change Authentication method to OAuth2
Now in the left column click Outgoing Server (SMTP).
Click Edit and check that Server Name is smtp.office365.com
, Connection security is STARTTLS
and that 'Authentication method is OAuth2
Next time you check your e-mail an extra box will pop up that you'll have to enter your password into to give MicroSoft permission to pass your messages to Thunderbird.
