Hi Bradley, this is slightly complicated because it depends on how the link is coded. If it's a normal stays-in-this-tab link, that setting on the Settings page controls what happens. However, if it's a scripted pop-up link, then it is considered a new window diverted to a new tab, and that has a hidden setting. To find that...
(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box in the page, type or paste inBack and pause while the list is filtered. Firefox should show several preferences.
(3) Double-click the browser.tabs.loadDivertedInBackground preference to switch the value from false to true
