How do I browse local directory using Firefox
I want to use a Firefox addon JSONVIEW to look at the contents of the .json files, most notably backup copies of Firefox bookmarks so that I can see what information is being stored. So it seems as if I have to be able to use Firefox to browse directories. I created a bookmark to the root directory of my Windows machine's hard drive and started to browse ///C:/ It worked to get me down to ///C:/Documents and Settings/my user name. But then there was a problem - only certain of the material in that directory appeared in Firefox. In particular, the subdirectory Application Data did not appear. so I could not proceed down the subdirectories. (Yes, "show hidden objects" was checked yes although it did not show up when I went into some of the other subdirectories which did appear in Firefox like "My Documents" .) I could work around the problem by copying a .json file into another directory c:\data-work and browsing to that file with Firefox. (Interestingly, when I tried to use IE8 to browse my hard drive, IE immediately gave up and loaded Windows Explorer to carry out the browsing.)So what can I do to make all material on a local hard drive visible in Firefox?

You can try to enter %AppData% in the File name field in that file picker window.
