firefox saves any image file from amazonaws (like tumblr images)as html even when you click "save image as". eg: click on any tumblr image to open in new window and try "save image as"

If you have file-extensions on you could change the .htm to .jpg when you choose what to save it as. In some cases you can also save images by just dragging the image itself onto your desktop/any folder. Alternatively if neither work, try this:

  1. Right-click the image.
  2. Choose "View Image Info" in the menu -> a window will pop up.
  3. A bit above the image-preview, to the right, there is a button saying "Save as..."
  4. Click the "Save as..."-button and now you can save it as an image-file without problem!

I found the easiest way to save images off of tumblr is to press STRG+S, Firefox then saves the image and not an HTML document. Nevertheless it should work by rightclicking and choosing "save as".

@blueboxers thanks for a detailed reply. i am aware of this but it is also very cumbersome. pressing cntrl-s seems to be a quicker solution.

press "ctrl+S" together and the file save as window opens - usually showing the correct .jpg extension,
